Objective, Choice and Weighting

 

In my opinion, music is very similar to sports, for you have to often do practices for your state. A large number and repeated exercised are to learn new skills and improve your level. The process of doing exercises is a kind of burden. Like weighting, you must take long term and systemic exercises and a lot of boring work without future. You can not see a little progress after a long time. You do not expect any more and even prepare to give up, but all of a sudden, you make a breakthrough and get to a new state. Then you repeat such painful process. So you must have strong belief that you can get to the goal, and then you can beat the pain of your body and your hate.

 

In the exercise of weighting, you must clear your goal before you make any plan. Do you want to increase weight? Or steady adjustment? Which muscle needs to be strengthened particularly? Then you make a plan according to your goal.

 

Guitar is the same. The most important thing is to make clear your goal. You have to take it seriously, what kind of guitar player you want to become. Then you decide what to do in the definite time. Is it for skill, a section of music or writing songs, or all of them? You want to get incomparable skills, or play any songs you hear, or are more interested in research and composing on guitar, or you just want to write pop music of 3 chords? Believe me, this is also a kind of art.

 

If your ambition is solo player, then you should listen to Steve Morse，Al DiMeola，Allan Holdsworth. Of course, as you grow up, your goal may be changed. I am like this. When I was young, I just wanted to play guitar perfectly, so I took all my time in skill practice. After I entered Berklee, my attention has been paid on music. I learned reading score, theory, etc. After I become a musician, my focus is writing and composing. Playing guitar is very cool. You can not know where your music will go.

 

In your learning career, you may face an unchangeable stop, just as a wall in front. Believe me, you are not alone, every musician may face this kind of situation in fact. What I can say is do not lose heart, and get over it!

 

Do not give yourself too much pressure. Playing guitar is very interesting and you should take more time to play freely, and this is maybe your reason of playing guitar. The more you pay, the more you get. So please keep on practicing.
